14. Relatively Small Size The FTS which is relatively small in size is capable of transmitting large power. Universal Joint and Constant Velocity Joint are complex and rather large in size with the power they transmit. It is obvious if you compare the size of those devices and the shaft which connects them. The hollow pipe which has slightly larger radius to the shaft used in those devices is adequate for transmitting the torque. It is big difference in size compared to Universal Joint and Constant Velocity Joint. Hollow pipes generally are capable of transmitting large power than solid shaft and the FTS takes full advantage from its birth. The hollow pipe having the thickness around schedule 160 is assumed to be adequate for transmitting the torque which solid shaft size equal to the inside diameter of the FTS can transmit according to the following formulas for the design of hollow shafts. Pipe tranmisssion Torque = About 2.5 times of the shaft transmissiom Torque FTS transmission Torque = About 40% of Pipe transmission Torque Therefore = Shaft transmission Torque x 2.5 x 40% ¡Ö Shaft
